Prince Henry's Grammar School students are celebrating success in their A levels, with a number of impressive individual results.

Headteacher Janet Sheriff said: "Our A level results this year are once again extremely good. The percentage A* - B grades has remained high at 51% and the average point score per student is an impressive 731. All this is especially pleasing against the national picture where indications are that the percentage of A – B grades has fallen slightly.

"The great news is that 83% of our students have been accepted by their first or second choice university. The remaining students may still get places through Clearing or opt to withdraw and reapply next year.

"There are some amazing individual successes across the full range of academic achievement: At the top end an exceptional number of students gained straight A or A* grades – both at AS and A2 level. In Year 13 Sam Bradford was awarded four A* grades as well as an AS in further additional maths and a place at Cambridge University to study maths. Kerry McFarlane (law at Newcastle University) and Andrew Straiton (chemistry at York University) achieved three A* grades each. Will Roberts (modern and medieval languages) and Julia Craggs (English) both secured places at Cambridge University with their A*, A*, A grades.

"I am really proud of the continued improvement in standards at Prince Henry’s and would like to take this opportunity to thank the talented and dedicated staff that make this possible and the hard work and commitment of our amazing students. Well done to all."
