The retiring chairman of the Otley-based Resource Association has been presented with a personalised cycling shirt.

Founding chairman Andy Doran has stepped down after four years in the role for the organisation, which represents the reprocessing and recycling industries.

Mr Doran was presented with a framed road cycling shirt, bearing the legend 'Andy Doran - Tour de Force', at the association's pre-Tour de France meeting at its Boroughgate base - on the Tour's route through town - on Friday, July 4.

He said: "I am gratified at the generosity and ingenuity of my colleagues in the Resource Association and like to thank them, not only for the fabulous gift but also for the tremendous support they have given me and continue to give to Ray Georgeson and the team.

"I’m very much still on board as a member of the board, but promise not to wear the shirt at board meetings!"

MP Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Leeds North West), who presented the gift, said: "As Otley’s MP I can tell you how proud we are to host the headquarters of the Association and I continue to support your valuable work in building a stronger resource industry that can only bring economic and environmental benefits to our nation.

"Since supporting the launch of the Association in 2011 I’ve watched your development with great interest and congratulate Andy on his fine leadership of your board."

Jonathon Short, of ECO Plastics, has succeeded Mr Doran as chairman. He added: "Andy’s ‘grand départ’ as chairman has been magnificently emulated by Le Tour de Yorkshire itself last weekend.

"The event provided a fitting backdrop to Andy’s wise chairmanship of the organisation and a great opportunity to thank him properly for his efforts.

"I have big shoes to fill but am very much relishing the opportunity of carrying on his sterling efforts for the Association."
