The walking dead will take over the streets of Otley at the weekend - all for a very good cause.

Otley Zombie Apocalypse Run 2014 will see groups of 'survivors' racing around town as they try to complete missions without being caught by one of the horrific looking 'infected'.

The scary fun takes place on Saturday, August 16 and will raise money in memory of Otley boy Harry Buckley*, who lost his brave fight against cancer earlier this year.

The proceeds will help buy inclusive equipment for Newall Park playground and support Martin House Children's Hospice.

One of the zombie run's organisers, Emma Cobb-Webb, is looking forward to another day of high excitment following last year's successful event.

She said: "This year will see the contestants running point to point across the length of Otley to complete missions to find the next location, hoping to find the cure for the virus that has taken over the town and save themselves.

"Starting in a secret location, they will have to use their stealth, cunning and all-out running skills to evade infection at zones along the way.

"Working in teams of eight, the runners will have three lives each to keep them in the game, with the potential to get lives back if they complete a challenge.

"As before, the aim is to get to the safe zone without being infected - but if found to have been infected, they too will be sent to quarantine whilst they change into zombies!"

Emma added that lots of people would be donating their services, including applying the gruesome zombie make-up, for free or significantly reduced costs to support the fundraiser.

She said: "We are aiming to raise enough for a piece of play equipment to be selected from the park's plans by Sarah and Paul Buckley, as it will be dedicated to the memory of their brave and beautiful little boy, Harry.

"We also plan to make a donation to Martin House in Harry’s memory too."

Tickets for the run, which will be split into a series of timed slots starting at 5pm, with the last one at 9.12pm, cost £25 or £20 for a limited number of 'early bird' options.
