Schoolchildren held their own 'Tour' when they picked up cycling tips from a former national champion.

Pupils from the Froebelian School in Horsforth spent the morning with former national cycling champion Chris Young and experienced cycling coaches Mike Healey and Peter Charlton, at the Richard Dunns cycling track in Bradford.

Youngsters were trained in hill climbs, sprints and cornering up at the hair pin bends, before taking part in timed events, including a hill climb, a sprint, a house relay and an individual three lap race. The winners were presented with coloured jerseysin a closing ceremony. Lucien Cuming was awarded the Yellow Jersey for being the leader throughout. Isabel Beaty won the Green Jersey for winning the sprint, Olivia Hamilton the Red and White Polka Jersey for winning the hill climb. James Unsworth won the White and Red Jersey for bring the most aggressive rider, Seb Cuming and George Taylor collectively won the White Jersey for being the best youngest riders and Jessica Powell the Pink Jersey for being the best female rider.

A spokeswoman for the school said: "All the children had a fantastic day and really enjoyed taking part in such a fun event."
