YEADON Carnival will celebrates the 'Tour de Yorkshire' this year when it is held a week early to avoid clashing with the international event.

This year's carnival will take place on June 28 - a week ahead of the Grand Depart - and it is aiming to set the mood for cycling in Yorkshire.

Organisers of the Yeadon event say it will be even better than last year, with lots to see and do for the all the family and fabulous prizes to be won.

At noon, a "spectacular gala event of fairground fun, stalls and family entertainment" is set to take place on the Tarnfield Park. Entry is free and attractions will include a fire engine, cars, dancing, music, food, ice cream a raffle and tombola.

Carnival secretary Christine Schofield said: "At 1pm the High Street Carnival Procession, led by the Yeadon 2014 Carnival Queen, travels from the Tarn Park to the Town Hall square and promises to be the best yet. This year the school painting, fancy dress and shop window competitions are all on a cycling theme. So bring your friends, find a space and line the streets to watch the show. Hear the RAF Cadet Band, see the School Tableaux, the Mobility Extravaganza and the very best Vintage Cars and feel the excitement as the Jackson Motorcycles cavalcade passes by followed by the West Yorkshire Classics Fire Engine."

The carnival is sponsored by Leeds Bradford Airport and NatWest, supported by B&TS Builders, Hunters Estate Agents, Morrison's Supermarket, Multiflight and many other local businesses.
