Bradford Council advise Ilkley people to register Tour de France car parks
12:19pm Thursday 22nd May 2014 in News
People in the Ilkley area who are planning to use their land as car parking for the Tour de France Grand Depart, are being advised to register with Bradford Council before tomorrow, Friday.
The Council wants people to register, so they can help with signposts, check any access issues and offer advice on public safety liability.
Planning permission is not needed to set up a temporary car park as long as the car park isn’t within the grounds of a building and is open for less than 28 days a year.
Bradford Council’s assistant director for sport and leisure, Phil Barker, said: “Setting up a temporary car park comes with many responsibilities and those considering setting one up need to think about things like route of the race, road closures, public liability insurance and how to move stuck vehicles in wet weather.
“It is very important that people get in touch and discuss what they are planning so that we can offer advice on how to run car parks safely.”
There are other advantages as well as any car parks registered with the Council will also be included on its Tour de France web pages to promote the race’s visit to the district.
People wishing to set up a temporary car park should visit bradford.gov.uk/tdf for information and e-mail email@example.com to register.
