Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Ilkley has called on ITV to clear daytime schedules for Saturday, July 5 and Sunday, July 6 to give comprehensive coverage to Le Grand Depart of the Tour De France.

ITV, the UK-rights holder for this year’s Tour De France, is yet to give any real details of its plans.

John Grogan said: “It is worrying that less than two months before the Tour starts from Leeds, ITV have still not given any real details of their plans.

“For Yorkshire to be hosting the start of one of the largest annual sporting events in the world is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It must be given the prominence it deserves.

“I’m calling on ITV to clear their daytime schedule on ITV1 that weekend so as many people as possible have the opportunity to see Keighley, Ilkley and the Worth, Aire and Wharfe Valleys in all their glory.”
