A scheme is being brought to Addingham to help crowds in the village provide a rousing accompaniment to the Grand Départ.

CheerSing is part of Yorkshire Festival 2014 and the free workshops are designed to help communities along the Grand Départ route devise, lead and perform their own songs, cheers and chants.

Led by Leeds-based singer and composer Louise Gibbs, the workshop will last between 60 and 90 minutes, and is open to all ages. It requires no previous experience or skill - just turn up. Louise said: “There will be hundreds, if not thousands, of people hoping to cheer along the cyclists and we’d love people to get involved in our project and create an inspiring wave of sound to motivate competitors as they speed by. Anyone who likes the sound of making a lot of noise, having fun and learning some new vocal skills along the way, should get down to one of our free workshops taking place across the region.”

The Cheer Sing workshop in Addingham takes place on Saturday at 2pm in Addingham Memorial Hall. For more details about the 100-day Yorkshire Festival go to yorkshirefestival.co.uk.
