A new music festival is set to hit Ilkley this May bank holiday weekend.

Running over three days, Ilkley Rocks 2014 is an extension to the Ilkley Carnival and will showcase a host of bands performing live at the Hollygarth on Leeds Road on Saturday, May 3, and Sunday, May 4, and on the carnival field on Monday, May 5.

Solo performers and bands include Bradford artist Liam Jarvis and Keighley quartet Rock Bottom Risers.

With more than ten main acts scheduled, Ilkley Rocks founder and co-organiser Danny Greenwood is confident the festival will have a significant impact on the local community.

Danny said: “Ilkley Rocks festival is a great example of how the Ilkley Carnival is expanding every year and gives us further opportunities to raise vital funds for the community.

“We have an exciting mix of local talent coming to the town and we are positive that the success will allow Ilkley Rocks to become an annual event.”

Luke Scott from Keighley rock and roll band The Ramblers said: “As a local band we’re aware of how the Ilkley Carnival has grown in popularity over the years and have heard of the huge difference funds raised because of it make to local charities and groups.

“It’s great to have been asked to take part in the first ever Ilkley Rocks festival and we’re determined to kick it all off in spectacular style.”

Ilkley Rocks will start at 6.30pm on both evenings at the Hollygarth and ten bands will play live in the beer tent on the carnival field from noon. Ilkley Carnival committee member Colin Watson said: “We want to grow and evolve Ilkley Carnival into an event which extends to much more than one day out in the town.

“Ilkley Rocks is just one of a number of ideas we have for broadening the appeal and the capacity for Ilkley Carnival to have a significant impact on local groups and charities.

“We hope everyone will get behind Ilkley Rocks and buy tickets to not only help raise more funds for local charities such as our primary beneficiary the LS29 Support Group but show their support for the local bands who are giving up their time to perform for us.”

Ilkley Rocks tickets cost £6 per event and are available online through the Ilkley Carnival website ilkleycarnival.org or by contacting Colin Watson on 07885 200640.
