An Ilkley pub is set to host its first charity beer festival next weekend to raise funds for Help for Heroes.

The Flying Duck, in Church Street, will be showcasing over 30 real ales from Cumbrian breweries, across three bars and 13 hand pumps, between Thursday, March 27, and Sunday, March 30.

The majority of the investors involved in the consortium behind the town’s newest venue are past chairmen of Ilkley Round Table and founder members of the highly successful Ilkley Beer Festival which raises tens of thousands of pounds for needed causes every year.

The Flying Duck’s general manager Stewart Ross said: “Real ale is our passion, we have a long history of raising money for charity and our first beer festival at the pub gives us another opportunity to bring the two together.

“Cumbrian beers are always very popular and we feel that Help for Heroes is a very worthwhile cause for us to bet getting behind.”

Help for Heroes was founded by Bryn and Emma Parry in October 2007 out of a desire to help the wounded servicemen and women returning from Afghanistan and Iraq and provides direct, practical support to those injured in the current conflicts.

The Flying Duck will be making a substantial donation at the end of the beer festival based upon the number of pints sold.

The event is free to enter but there will be collecting tins available throughout the weekend should visitors wish to contribute. Donations can also be made online via bmy charity.com/FlyingDuck Ilkley.

Last week, the Flying Duck held a wine tasting evening in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and presented BBC Look North Presenters Harry Gration and Amy Garcia with a Wharfedale Blonde bottle set and a collection bucket with monies raised from their customers in support of their Tour de Yorkshire tandem ride for Sport Relief, when they paid a brief visit.
