A campaign to support businesses damaged by ‘bullying’ banks is being backed by the MPs for Otley and Aireborough.

Pudsey, Horsforth and Aireborough MP Stuart Andrew and Leeds North West MP Greg Mulholland attended the Bully Banks campaign day in Westminster to show their support for small and medium businesses that have suffered because of misconduct by high street banks.

Bully Banks was created at the end of 2011 by a small group of business owners who had all been mis-sold an IRSA by a bank, and now has over two thousand members. The aim of their campaign is to seek justice for all SMEs damaged by their bank’s misconduct.

Mr Andrew said: “The purpose of the lobby day was to raise awareness for the ongoing problems with the interest rate swap mis-selling scandal and to look at ways to take action on behalf of businesses in my constituency. I am supporting all small businesses in Pudsey, Horsforth and Aireborough damaged by the misconduct of banks.

Mr Mulholland said: “I was pleased to attend the meeting for the Bully Bank campaign and certainly share their concerns about the way in which banks treat small and medium-sized businesses.   “From listening to the concerns of my constituent, and those raised by Bully Banks, I understand that this is common practice and urge the Government to investigate this thoroughly.”

Jeremy Roe, chairman of Bully Banks, added: “The parliamentary support for this campaign has been invaluable in securing redress for thousands of businesses across the UK each of which has been the victim of mis-selling at the hands of our high street banks. Much more remains to be achieved but the turn out on Wednesday was extremely encouraging. We look forward to working with our MPs to resolve the ongoing issues.”
