Events to mark the centenary of the First World War’s outbreak are being planned in Ilkley.

Music from the last Edwardian summer will be performed at St Margaret’s Church in August as part of Ilkley Summer Festival, and a councillor has asked Ilkley Parish Council to hold events commemorating the centenary.

Councillor Heathcliffe Bowen proposed the events to the council last week, and suggested it would be good to get local churches involved.

The Parish Council has already agreed to put money towards improvement work at the Memorial Garden at the end of The Grove, working in partnership with Bradford Council.

The project was put forward by Councillor Bowen and Councillor Lexa Robinson.

The Ilkley Summer Festival concert, Overture to the Great War, will take place at St Margaret’s Queens Road, on August 2. It is being organised by Geoff Cloke, and will feature music that residents would have been familiar with in 1914.
