Singer and lute player Helen Atkinson will bring a programme of Renaissance music to Ilkley on Saturday.
She began playing the lute as a teenager, when the early music movement was still young. As an adult, living and working in Oxford, Helen found increasing opportunities to perform as a soloist with choirs singing Baroque and Classical repertoire, and had little time to dedicate to the lute.
However, since moving to York seven years ago, she has focused on the instrument again, studying with internationally acclaimed lutenist Jacob Heringman, who is based in North Yorkshire. She now performs both as a self-accompanied lutenist and in collaboration with other early musicians.
The recital, Fair, Sweet, Cruel: Love songs from the Renaissance will take place at Ilkley Baptist Church, King’s Road, starting at 6pm. Visit lutesinger.com for more information.
