An insight into the life of an MP will be given at a meeting in Rawdon this month.

Stuart Andrew, who represents Pudsey, Horsforth and Aireborough, will talk about his first few weeks at Westminster in his Reminiscences of a Newly Elected MP.

He will share his memories at Aireborough Civic Society’s first meeting in its new venue, Rawdon Community Library, on Thursday, January 30, at 7.30pm.

Civic Society chairman Clive Woods said Mr Andrew, who was elected as an MP in 2010, had been prominent in opposing plans for excessive house-building in the local Green Belt.

He added: “We are very pleased that our MP is able to come to our first meeting in our new venue.

“Aireborough Civic Society opposed the closure of Rawdon Library and we are now extremely pleased to be able to use this community asset for our monthly meetings. Rawdon Library is an ideal community venue with good bus links (33, 33A, 747, 757) and a large car park. It also has disabled access and facilities.”

Admission is free to Civic Society members and £3 for non-members.

The society will hold meetings at the library on the last Thursday of every month at 7.30pm.

Mr Woods said the society had an important part to play in protecting the environment. For further details e-mail clivewoods@hotmail.com, or call (0113) 250 3580.
