A home in Ilkley threw a special birthday party as one if its residents celebrated her 100th birthday.

Homecroft Residential Home, on Victoria Avenue, welcomed the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Khadim Hussain, to celebrate resident Doreen Ferrend’s birthday on January 6.

Mrs Ferrend is originally from Leeds. She was born in Armley and was an only child when she went to West Leeds High School.

She worked as a counter cashier in the Provincial Building Society in Leeds.

When she married her husband Sydney, who ran a hairdressing business in Leeds, they moved to Shadwell. The couple liked to travel a lot. They moved to Ilkley in 1968.

Homecroft held a party for Mrs Ferrend, with her friends, and she was presented with a card from the Queen.
