The founder of a popular music group for toddlers is to step down from the role after more than six years.

When Margaret Whitton started running the Music Movers group at Christchurch, The Grove, Ilkley, every Tuesday morning, there were fewer than a dozen families attending.

Now there are about 60 families who go to the weekly sessions.

“It’s just delightful how it has grown,” she said. “The children love to dance and make a noise on their instruments and the parents like the friendly, laid-back atmosphere.”

This week saw Margaret’s last Music Movers Christmas Special performance as leader of the group, although she says she plans to pop in to see people at sessions in future.

Hetley Burnham, who helps at the group, and Christine Henney, will be taking over the leadership. Christine said: “I have really enjoyed supporting Margaret in recent years and I look forward to continuing her excellent work. She is very organised, with a running order for each week and a CD so I can learn any songs I don’t currently know.”
