Two brave hearts in the guise of Otley’s Malcolm Emmitt and Menston’s Ian Bentley raised more than £1,200 with a sponsored head shave for the Take Heart charity campaign, which raises money for the Yorkshire Heart Centre at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

The pair are no strangers to voluntary work and involvement with good causes, having already raised nearly £10,000 for Troop Aid.

On the evening, held at High Royds Sports and Social Club, Menston, a small charge was made to those who took up the clippers and got involved.

Tom Booth, club secretary, said: “The occasion raised a lot of laughs and was enjoyed by the participants, the spectators and those who were involved in the task of rendering bald those two willing heads. And all in the best of causes.

“Thank you, Malcolm and Ian. Let us hope you inspire others by your example, if not to having their heads shaved , but to them performing some task for the community in which they live.”
