A poster designed by a ten-year-old Ilkley girl, highlighting dangers associated with cold weather, will be on display at railway stations from January.
As winter gets under way, with the annual drop in temperature, it also heralds the unfortunate rise in slips, trips and falls.
At Northern Rail stations this winter youngsters are helping passengers stay safe with their designs for a series of safety posters, highlighting the dangers the coldest season can bring.
Gary Stewart, safety and assurance director for Northern said: “The change in weather has a noticeable impact on the conditions at our stations and we want to remind our customers to take extra care; make them aware of potential hazards such as slippery steps and platforms, tripping hazards and remind them to allow extra time for their journey.”
Among the winning artists is Emily Shaw, aged ten, from Ilkley. She joined other young artists on a trip to Screenprint & Display in York to see her poster being created, and received a Northern Rail family pass as well as £50 worth of high street shopping vouchers.
Northern is also asking its Twitter followers to keep their eyes peeled for the posters and Tweet a picture of them as they go up around the network every month, to help keep the safety message in mind.
Simply Tweet a picture to @northernrailorg when you spot one and one person every month will win a limited edition Northern Rail goody bag.
