Ilkley Tennis Club hosts the Ilkley Wheelchair Tennis Tournament this weekend.
This event, sponsored by Kirbys Solicitors in Harrogate, forms part of the Lawn Tennis Association’s Wheelchair Tennis Development Series and is now in its third year.
The aim of the series is to provide players with opportunities for year-round competitive play before the step up to the international ITF NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour.
Sandra King, of the Lawn Tennis Association, said: “The development series is vital to be able to grow wheelchair tennis competitively across Great Britain, and these events provide a great chance for those who have less experience to enjoy some competitive action and develop as players through our talent identification programme.”
Alan Cutts, Ilkley Lawn Tennis & Squash Club’s referee for the event, said: “We are delighted to be able to host an LTA-sanctioned wheelchair event of this calibre at the club and are looking forward to meeting the players and to seeing them in action.
“The London 2012 Paralympics highlighted the top-class athletes that play wheelchair tennis and it will be fantastic to have up and coming players here at the club.”
