Otley's East Busk Lane omitted from 20mph zone ‘in error’

An Otley street was nearly left out of a scheme to create a 20mph residential zone south of the river due to an oversight.
More than 100 roads will have their speed limit lowered under the proposals in a bid to improve road safety and encourage drivers to behave responsibly.
But the consultation documents sent out to householders about the plan accidentally omitted East Busk Lane. The error has now been flagged up by the town’s three ward councillors.
Councillor Ryk Downes (Lib Dem, Otley & Yeadon) said: “This street was on the initial plans and I was surprised to learn it was not on the plans that went out to consultation.
“As soon as we found out we contacted highways, who checked and confirmed it was an error. We have requested that it be included in the scheme and highways are planning to revise the order to include East Busk Lane.”
Unless it receives major objections, Leeds City Council is set to introduce the lower limit on most residential and unnamed roads south of the River Wharfe by next April.
Otley Town Council has set aside £10,000 to support the scheme.
