Arthritis sufferers given a helping hand at new Burley support group
4:03pm Thursday 10th October 2013 in News
A Burley-in-Wharfedale woman affected by arthritis for more than 25 years has set up a support group for sufferers after realising the area needed one.
The patient group meets once a month where members share their problems and issues.
Speaking during National Arthritis Week (October 7-13), Gill Bowskill, 66, said: “The main thing is often just getting out of the house and tackling that feeling of isolation.
“If you say arthritis to people they limit it to grandparents but if affects the whole age spectrum.
“They also think it is just a question of pain, but it’s the struggle of doing everyday tasks,” she said.
“We offer a listening ear from people who understand exactly what sufferers are going through.
“They often just need a helping hand on where to go.”
