Injured climber rescued from Cow and Calf on Ilkley Moor

An injured female climber was rescued from a ledge at an Ilkley Moor quarry by search and rescue members yesterday afternoon (Sunday, September 22).
The Shipley woman, who has not been named, was taken to Airedale Hospital by ambulance, after suffering injuries to both her ankles in the Cow and Calf Quarry.
She was injured while scrambling up rocks in the quarry, a popular climbing spot, at about 4.30pm, and left trapped on a ledge. Her friends called the ambulance service, which alerted Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team and Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association.
The Calder Valley team said the casualty was lowered to safety on an Alpine stretcher following treatment by ambualnce service paramedics.
A spokesman for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said they received a call at 4.32pm to reports of a woman injured on rocks above the Cow and Calf on Ilkley Moor.
“We sent two rapid response vehicle and an ambulance,” she said. “One female patient was taken to Airedale Hospital.”
