Brownlee brothers back team of trekkers

Twenty-two walkers took inspiration from the Brownlee brothers and put their best feet forward to raise more than £2,400 for charity.
The Bramhope team posed for photos with the champion triathletes, who live in the village, before setting off to tackle the three peaks challenge.
The fundraising team was got together by village newsagent Tariq Qadeer, after his family was invited on the trek. The walkers raised money for Candlelighters and the Imran Khan Cancer appeal. Tariq said: “There were so many of my customers and friends who were really looking forward to this challenge as many of us haven’t done the Three Peaks before.
“We arranged some walks from Bramhope to Otley and up the Chevin and back. On Thursday, September 5, we invited the Brownlee Brothers for some photos and they kindly agreed to come. It was great fun and everybody loved it.”
Tariq was amazed by the response from people in Bramhope, who helped him exceed his initial aim of getting together 15 people. He said despite the difficulty of the walk team members kept each others spirits up and all managed to finish in under 12 hours.
“The last peak, Ingleborough, was the toughest as it was very steep, so we tried not to look back or look down. One member of the team managed to climb to the top of the hill despite suffering from the fear of heights,” he said. “Despite all the aches and pains, everyone of us who took part in this challenge, absolutely loved it and all of us want to do it again as soon as possible. So I am hoping to organise one again in June next year. “ The group has raised more than £2,400 so far, with donations being made in the shop and at justgiving.com/Team-Bramhope.
