Burst water pipe causes traffic problems on Billams Hill, Otley
11:12am Friday 6th September 2013 in News
Traffic problems were continuing to plague Otley on Wednesday, as Yorkshire Water strived to fix a burst pipe on Billams Hill.
The water mains, located underneath the B6451 near the north side of Otley Bridge, started leaking on Tuesday when Councillor Colin Campbell (Lib Dem, Otley & Yeadon) reported the fault. The company responded by installing temporary traffic lights so it could begin repairs, which led to heavy traffic build-up on either side of the bridge – described by one Riverside Park resident as “absolute chaos”.
Several roads in the town centre also suffered from congestion over both days. Yorkshire Water said it hoped to have the road back to normal by Wednesday evening.
