Addingham was blessed with continuous sunshine on Monday for the visit of Yorkshire in Bloom judges Christine Stewart and John Smith.

The judges in the regional competition examined the impact and appropriateness of the planting in the village’s public gardens, as well as the sustainablilty of the planting and the degree of community involvement in keeping Addingham looking spruce and attractive.

The volunteer group Addingham Garden Friends showed the visitors a range of sites in which they have some role to play, including Marchup Ghyll nature reserve, two sets of allotments, bee-friendly and edible planting done by the Brownies and Beavers, communal gardens at High House Mews, the Memorial Hall car park area, and a series of small gardens in Main Street, created mainly on former cottage sites.
