A novel inspired by Wharfedale’s ancient past will be launched at Otley Courthouse next week.

Live music and poetry readings will also support the unveiling of resident Rob Godfrey’s Year of the Celt: Imbolc at 7.30pm on Thursday, June 27.

Set in 499 BC, the book tells the story of a Brigantes tribe facing the onset of a mini ice age and sets much of its action in well-known Otley and Ilkley locations.

Guitarist Rob Thompson and singer-songwriter Beccy Owen will perform on the night and there will also be readings by local poets and a talk by the author himself. Admission to Celtic Connections: Echoes from the Past costs £9 or £7 in advance, or £10 or £8 on the night, with a limited edition copy of the book included in the price.

Tickets can be bought by visiting otleycourthouse.org.uk or calling (01943) 467466.
