Schoolchildren in Otley school have been going ‘bananas’ for Fairtrade Fortnight.
Pupils at Prince Henry’s Grammar School supported the annual awareness-raising campaign by getting involved in everything from making ‘fairtrade’ chocolate pledges to creating a special garden display.
Their efforts, which also included selling a Fairtrade cookbook and a poster competition, were boosted by a donation of bananas from Sainsbury’s supermarket in Otley. The school’s catering staff used the fruit to make all kinds of treats, including banana bread, banana cookies and banana cake, to sell at break-time.
Fairtrade Fortnight is organised by the Fairtrade Foundation, a charity that works to empower disadvantaged producers in developing countries, each year to promote Fairtrade products.
