Ilkley MP calls for debate on legality of war

Ilkley MP Kris Hopkins has called for a full Parliamentary debate on the circumstances leading up to the Iraq War.

Speaking at Business Questions in the Commons Mr Hopkins, who as a councillor spoke out in opposition to the invasion by Coalition forces, said: “We are approaching the tenth anniversary of the start of the Iraq War. There are still unanswered questions about the legality of the war.”

He asked Leader of the House Andrew Lansley: “Will you facilitate a debate on this important issue?”

Mr Lansley said he believed the anniversary “is one that we should commemorate and remember the loss of life, and our own dead and injured.”
