Menston is about to be treated to one of the best-loved traditional pantomimes.

Menston Thespians will stage its first performance this evening of its latest production, Jack and the Beanstalk.

The shows will take place at Kirklands Community Centre until Saturday. The show, written by Ben Crocker, is produced by Marjorie Inman with musical direction from Arnold Boddy and Louise Webster. Laura Emsley is in charge of choreography.

And it’s a family affair for the cast. Daisy the Cow is played by newlyweds Emma and James Willi-ment and Emma’s sister, Victoria, is the Princess. Many of the backstage crew are the Jones family from Otley.

The goblins are played by brothers Joseph and Benjamin Woollin and brother and sister Maria and Owen Sage – whose father Andrew stepped into the role of the giant at short notice. Menston Thespians’ Sharon Howell said: “We are indebted to Andrew for stepping in. He has taken to it like a duck to water.”

Shows start at 7.15pm and there will be a 2pm Saturday matinee.
