Plans to extend a Burley-in-Wharfedale convenience store’s hours for the sale of alcohol are to go before a Bradford Council licensing panel on Tuesday.
A report due to go before the Keighley and Shipley Area Licensing Panel next week says there have been eight objections to the application to vary the hours at the Co-op Late Shop, Station Road.
The Council’s Environmental Health Department has also highlighted complaints it has received about early morning deliveries, and concerns an increase in trading hours could cause further nuisances for nearby residents.
Objections from villagers include concerns of an increase of noise and disturbance from early morning deliveries and staff, plus opening up and noise and disturbance from staff closing the premises late at night.
Concerns have also been raised regarding a possible increase of anti-social behaviour and noise and disturbance from youths congregating in the area due to longer hours of trading. The Co-op has proposed a CCTV system at the shop, a proof-of-age scheme for alcohol sales, and offered to provide the telephone number of the chain’s contact centre on request.
The panel will meet at City Hall, Bradford, at 10am.
