A 21-year-old man, believed to be from Otley, was killed in a car crash near Harrogate last week.
Police, who are still working to formally identify the driver, are appealing for witnesses following the incident at Beckwithshaw.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene after his silver Ford Focus hit a tree on the B6162 Otley Road at about 12.15am on Friday, January 25.
No other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the collision.
Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash, which occurred at the junction with the B616, or saw the Ford Focus before the incident, to contact them urgently with information.
Traffic Sergeant Trevor Burton, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group, said: “Unfortunately, this collision has resulted in the death of a young man and we need to establish exactly how the incident occurred.
“Witnesses will be vital to our investigation and if you have any information that can help, I urge you to come forward as soon as possible.”
Anyone with any information is urged to call North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for Trevor Burton, or to contact him via e-mail at Trevor.burton@northyorkshire.
