1:25pm Friday 25th January 2013 in News
David Elcock with Ilkley Flower Club chairman, Brenda Jones
A History of Bradford Parks was the title of the talk by David Elcock, Bradford parks manager, at Ilkley Flower Club’s January meeting.
There are a total of 36 parks in the Bradford district, with 12 being historical sites.
Mr Elcock talked about some of the historic parks, including Lister Park and Cartwright Hall, Peel Park, Robert’s Park and Oakworth Park.
He explained how they had been established by some of the entrepreneurs of the time and how they had developed over the years.
Mr Elcock showed photographs of how the parks have changed and talked about the Lottery funding which had been received to open up and improve the sites.
The next meeting of the club will be on Monday, February 11, when Janine Scully, from Huddersfield, will be demonstrating “Love is in the Air”. New members and visitors are welcome.
