A member of an Addingham choir is still going strong and “feeling splendid” at the age of 100.

George Harold Clough, known by everyone as Harold, celebrated his landmark birthday last week.

The keen singer is also a musician and is a member of the Mount Hermon choir in Addingham.

Mr Clough has played the concertina since his late 20s.

He also played the cornet for Keighley Salvation Army for many years.

He joined Silsden Town Band in 2006 and performed with it until 2010.

He is still a member of the Mount Hermon choir.

He enjoyed a birthday party with family and later that evening Silsden Town Band arrived to stage a concert for him.

Mr Clough was born in Worsbrough Dale, in South Yorkshire, in 1912.

He left school at the age of 14 and worked in the coal mining industry, where he was a pony driver.

In 1935 he trained as a Salvation Army officer.

He married fellow Salvation Army worker Daisy in 1939 and they worked together in the organisation until 1945, when they settled in Keighley. Mr Clough then worked as an engineer at Widdops.

He has two daughters – Mavis and Sylvia – and also has three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He lives at Currergate Nursing Home, Silsden.
