Health professionals are asking for people at risk from HIV to consider having a simple finger prick test in a bid to boost detection rates.

The call comes during national HIV testing week as the Trinity Centre, the sexual health service of Bradford Teaching Hospitals, is encouraging those who may be affected to visit drop-in sessions at their Trinity Road clinic.

HIV clinical nurse specialist, Simon Corcos, said: “HIV is a disease where, if you pick it up early, you don't need to die from it.”

Testing for HIV can be carried out in various ways, including a simple finger prick HIV test.

The Trinity Centre offers a confidential walk-in service Monday to Friday 8.30am to noon, and if patients are found to be HIV positive they can access the specialist HIV team quickly for advice and reassurance.
