Police have been helping motorists to protect their number plates from thieves.

PCSOs Mark Kelly and Peter Andrews spent Saturday at West Side Retail Park in Guiseley, carrying out the Prevention on a Plate initiative.

Members of the public were given the chance to have their number plate screws swapped free of charge for security screws in a bid to prevent the plates being removed from vehicles and used in crime. Police said the day was a great success, with more than 50 vehicles being processed.

The officers were joined by the chairman of the local Neighbourhood Watch scheme, Gary Hewitt.

The neighbourhood watch committee had sponsored the event, making a contribution towards the cost of materials.

A battery-powered drill was donated by City Electrical for use in fixing the new screws.
