A Rawdon couple were killed when their motorbike crashed on a foggy stretch of road.

Alan Walker, 54 – whose Yamaha bike was said to be his pride and joy – lost his life, along with girlfriend Emma Scott, 36, just weeks after he bought it.

The couple, who were looking forward to moving into their first home together in Larkfield Road, Rawdon, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash in Bradford Road, Burley in Wharfedale, on Saturday.

The motorcycle was in collision with a Land Rover Discovery towing a trailer.

The tragedy was witnessed by a friend of the couple who was riding a motorbike behind them.

News of their deaths shocked staff and regulars at the Emmott Arms in Rawdon, where the couple were well known.

Landlady Sharon Booth said: “Alan hadn’t had the motorbike long – he only got it three or four weeks ago. He had wanted one for a long time and he had just got his wish.

“One of our customers is a biker as well and he was with them. I think he was behind.”

She said Alan, who had previously owned a motorbike some time ago, had been a regular at the pub for many years, and had been going out with Emma for about a year. She said: “They were really lovely people. They were in here a few times a week. Alan always had a smile on his face and was a fun person. Emma was quieter but really nice.

“Alan was the sort who would do anything for anybody. You only had to ask – and half the time you didn’t even need to ask.

“I know they were really excited because they had bought a house and were hoping to move in before Christmas. They were just such a nice couple and it is a tragedy.”

She added: “They will be really missed. Alan was always in on Thursday night for the quiz.

“Tonight will seem so strange – there will be a big empty space.

Floral tributes to the couple, who lived at Larkfield Road, Rawdon, have been left at the scene of the crash.

Meanwhile, two people were injured in other incidents on Bradford Road Road, Burley, last week.

Firefighters had to free a woman, believed to be in her 70s, from an upturned Ford Fiesta after a two-vehicle collision between the Burley roundabout and Sandholme Drive last Wednesday night.

She is not thought to have suffered serious injuries.

And an 80-year-old woman pedestrian suffered facial injuries in a collision with a vehicle on the A65 at Burley, close to the junction with Endor Crescent, on Friday.

Police are asking witnesses to Saturday’s accident to contact the Major Collision and Inquiry Team on 101.
