Fundraising achievements of Otley Rotary Club were highlighted by the group’s new president-elect at its 79th charter dinner.

Keith Thompson told the district governor elect, 70 fellow Rotarians and guests at Otley Golf Club the branch should be “very proud” of its fundraising efforts during the past two years.

The club has raised more than £15,000 for good causes during that time. Its donations included £2,000 to Otley Scouts’ clubhouse, £1,000 to a South African orphanage, £1,000 towards Menston girl Eve Williams’ trip to the US for medical treatment and £850 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Mr Thompson also described the club’s winning of the District Trophy last year, for making the largest contribution towards the Polio Plus campaign to eradicate the disease worldwide, as a “superb achievement”.
