Legion's Otley branch holds final anniversary events
12:00pm Friday 26th October 2012 in News
Otley’s branch of the Royal British Legion will hold two final fundraising events to celebrate its 90th anniversary.
The group, which was formed on July 10, 1922, held a sale and brass band concert earlier this year to mark the occasion.
Its two last anniversary events – a poppies, wreaths and crosses stall and a concert by the Salvation Army Yorkshire Friendship Band – will both take place on Saturday, November 10.
The concert will be at Otley Methodist Church’s Wesley Hall at 6.30pm, while the stall will be run by local Army Cadets at the Buttercross from 9am to noon.
Proceeds from both will go to the Poppy Appeal.
The two summer events raised enough to donate £100 apiece to the Royal British Legion’s care home at Ripon – Lister House, one of its break homes, Alderson House at Bridlington, and the Personnel Recovery and Assessment Centre at Catterick Garrison.
The Legion’s Otley branch would welcome help from any volunteers during Poppy fortnight, which runs from Saturday until November 11. Contact secretary and honorary citizen Doris Gagen on (01943) 465098 for further information.
The British Legion branch will hold a short service in Otley Remem-brance Garden at 11am on Remembrance Day and, after lunch, will lead a parade through the town from Station Road to the Methodist Church.
