‘Groovy’ outfits were the order of the day when an Otley school celebrated its 40th anniversary.
Staff, governors and pupils past and present donned clothes from the 1970s to celebrate the occasion at Ashfield Primary School on Friday.
Visitors enjoyed a celebratory tea party, which included a 40th birthday cake cut by Otley town mayor Councillor Mary Vickers (Lib Dem, Prince Henry).
An exhibition of memorabilia and photographs documenting the school’s history, along with pupils’ displays, were also on show.
Headteacher Sybil Parker said: “We had a really lovely well-supported day, with lots of people in very funny 1970s costume, including myself.
“We had lots of fun and many past pupils enjoyed sharing experiences, looking at the memorabilia and trying to spot themselves in the old photo-graphs.”
MP Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Leeds North West) and governors, councillors Ryk Downes and Sandy Lay (both Lib Dem, Otley & Yeadon), were among the guests.
Coun Downes said: “I was proud to be there as the school celebrated 40 years.
“We were well-fed with chocolate cake, cupcakes and scones with clotted cream, as well as tea and coffee.”
