Two-day strike hits council services
INDUSTRIAL action by two public sector workers' unions continued to hit Bradford Council services today.
But while the strike led to the closure of town halls, schools sports centres and other council facilities and services elsewhere in the district, most services remained operational in Wharfedale.
Local Government employees who are members of Unison and Unite voted to strike after rejecting a Government pay offer.
Ilkley Town Hall opened its doors yesterday, but not all of the council departments were operating at full strength and the planning service was closed.
Council bosses said that refuse collections would be as normal as possible' yesterday and today and pick-ups would be as normal next week.
The council also advised residents that they could use the local Household Waste Recycling Centre at Golden Butts Road, which was also expected to be open today.
Housing benefit payments have been delayed by the industrial action, and payments are expected to be made on Tuesday.
Any residents who do not receive their payment after July 23 are asked to contact Bradford Council.
No Ilkley schools were affected by the industrial action and Ilkley Pool was open though the library was closed.
The Manor House Museum was open as usual despite initial predictions from the council that it may be closed.
