GUISELEY'S good start to the season stuttered to a halt at Beckwithshaw on Saturday despite the efforts of young opener Adam Waite.

He followed up last week's half- century with a knock of 82 but it was not enough to save Guiseley from a first defeat of the season.

They went down by six wickets at Beckwithshaw, who passed their opponents' 186 for eight to move top of Division One as a result.

Opener Phil Critchley struck a fine 91 for Beckwithshaw to set them on the victory trail. He found an ally in S Carey with 36. Guiseley's bowling attack lacked penetration and they used seven bowlers in an attempt to change the pattern of the game.

Rawdon also climb above Guiseley to take second place after they took five points off Otley.

Skipper Stewart Smith's 72 was the main contribution to Rawdon's 202 for eight, Mark McEneaney also contributing 37, and even though Jonathan Hughes (61no) and Gary Thompson (33) staged a late rally for Otley with a stand of 59 Otley had only one wicket to spare as they ended on 145.

Overseas player Steven Duckworth was the best of the Rawdon bowlers with 4-32 off 15 overs.

Young Michael Truswell (49no) and Richard Brook (36) provided late resistance in the Burley innings sharing a seventh wicket stand of 43 after their side had been 114-6.

All-rounder Nick Brook with 48 from the opening spot had earlier got Burley off to a good start along with Mark Harrison (28) in a stand of 54 and Burley finished on 203 for seven.

Green Lane however eased past the target with six wickets to spare, their Indian star Vivek Mahajan finishing unbeaten on 80. He had support from opener Steve Hargreaves (26), M Abbott (33) and Oliver Halliday (25).

Nick Brook was again the most successful of the Burley bowlers with 3-80 off his 21 overs.

Division Two An undefeated century by former Addingham player Richard Atkins clinched Steeton's third league win of the season to keep them four points clear at the top of Division Two.

Their opponents Olicanians slipped to a third straight defeat despite reaching an impressive 230 for nine. This was a better score than they achieved in the whole of last season's promotion campaign.

Darren Murray top scored with 49 while Gary Boulton (5-78) produced a five wicket haul for the second time this season for Steeton who are proving formidable opponents this year.

They eased their way to a seven-wicket victory in 38 overs. Andrew Luxton hit 44 and Atkins cracked 19 fours and two sixes in his 108 not out.

In the battle between two sides chasing Steeton, Silsden came out on top against Follifoot by taking five points.

Yasser Ali's second half-century allied to an unbeaten 63 from bowling star Zeeshan Qasim saw them to 206 for nine.

Follifoot never looked like matching that and made only 137-8 to claim a point, M Halmshaw top scoring with 34 before being run out.

There were plenty of runs in an entertaining match at Upper Wharfe-dale where Ben Way (80) top scored.

He was supported by 35 from David Eggleton in an opening stand of 62 and then knocks of 39 from C Butt, 35 not out from C Baines and 26 not out from Casper Bean as the home side raced to 247 for six.

Tong Park were however up for the challenge and led by Danny Groom (68), James Druce (66) and Gareth Wilkinson (51) clinched their first win by four wickets with just two balls to spare.

Harden had an unbeaten 68 from Gary Topp and a second four wicket haul by Richard Wear but still lost by five wickets at Colton despite posting a healthy 205 for seven.

Topp was supported by J Roper with 39 and S Wood with 40. However their batting exploits were eclipsed by Colton opener N Thackeray who hit an unbeaten 80. He found support from D Wright with 39.

Calverley found high-flying Knares-borough's overseas import Dale Tormey in red hot form as he hit 82 and took 3-46. They lost by seven wickets after being dismissed for 146.

With four wickets for M Marshall and three for Tormey Knaresborough were always in control. J Hudson chipped away with 3-39 for Calverley but Tormey was on top form and victory was gained in 39.4 overs.

Bardsey set a challenging target of 240 for New Rover who replied with 119 as a variety of Bardsey bowlers struck with two wickets apiece. Top scorer for Bardsey was opener M Brown with 84 while S Bowes produced a half-century.

Division Three The Division Three race already looks like a battle to stop Illingworth as they are the only Airedale and Wharfedale League side to retain a 100 per cent record after their seven-wicket destruction of Alwoodley (81).

Skipton are keeping close on their heels however after crushing Menston by seven wickets with the Indian spinner Ajay Rajput taking 5-22 to move his season's tally on to 16 in four matches as the visitors were skittled out for 99.

Bolton Villas are in the hunt as well after they won a thriller against Ilkley by seven runs. Shrey Datta hit six sixes in his unbeaten 77 as Villas set a target of 236 for seven. Former Burley batsman Lee Saddique (64) and Richard Rhodes (61) led the Ilkley charge but Sam Lawrence (6-83) and Chris Spivey (3-63) finally clinched the victory.

Ben Rhydding's Nick Smith (5-61) helped restrict Hall Park to 189, of which opener Amjid Hussain hit 77, then went on to score 42.

Alex Miller weighed in with 48 but, with Nadeem Hanif taking his second five wicket haul in as many weeks, the home side were still 36 runs short of victory when they were dismissed.

Paul Naylor (92) and Mick Birts (87) put Thackley on the way to 269 for nine, with last man Paul Stothart contributing a vital 47 not out. Woodhouse put up a spirited reply but closed just short on 245 for seven, leaving Thackley with four points.

For Woodhouse the backbone of their innings was provided by Mackie Moven with an unbeaten 71.

In the battle of the bottom two, Darrell Robinson (60) top scored in Addingham's 153 for eight but it was not a defendable score and, with Anthony Cadman unbeaten on 83, Horsforth clinched their first win by seven wickets.

Second Teams Highlights of an intriguing Second Teams match at Ilkley were the bowling performances of the veterans Michael Clegg, (5-39) and Tommy Powell (3-62) and the batting performances of the younger generation of Andrew Wheeler (60) and and Joe Varley (52).

All results were possible but a fall of wickets towards the end of Ilkley's innings gave way to a draw rather than either side pushing for a win.

In Division One Steeton bagged all six points after restricting Burley to 186-7, D Cook taking 4-34. Opener M Wilson then struck 83 to force victory.

Rawdon crumbled to 96 all out in the face of some good bowling from Otley's R Taylor (6-47 off 23 overs) and Mick Gray (4-47 off 18 overs).

Young opener Josh Atkinson made 24 and victory was then overseen by skipper Matt O'Grady with an unbeaten 33.

Collingham made 230-9 but North Leeds gave chase and got home with three wickets in hand thanks to a superb opening stand of 169 between Tim Hales (96) and P Phillips (65).

Guiseley's bowlers made short work of Follifoot putting them out for 89 with Steve Dickinson taking 4-19 off 11 overs as he celebrated the birth of his daughter Libby.

Young Callum Fraser continued his good form with an unbeaten 41 and Sean Yeates gave excellent support with 39 not out in a ten wicket win.

In Division Two Illingworth had a half-century from opener R Amos and an unbeaten 70 from G Weir in their 188-5 but it proved no real challenge for Illingworth who wiped off the runs for the loss of six wickets, C Fellows making an unbeaten 78.

Hall Park fell for 87 as J Downing took 4-11 and A Gott 3-13. Beckwithshaw knocked off the runs with six wickets down after Bob Hodson had taken 4-44 off 17 overs.

In their Division Two clash Horsforth fell for 102 as D Gilks bagged 5-29 and P Lloyd 3-34 to set Tong Park up for a ten wicket win. Mark Dearden was unbeaten with 46 and fellow opener M Thomas unbeaten with 52.

Calverley had the best of a 4-2 draw with Knaresborough but only just avoided defeat Knaresborough finishing 11 runs short of their target but with two wickets in hand.

In Division Three Silsden defeated Ben Rhydding by nine wickets after dismissing them for 72 with C Jopson taking 4-18 off 12 overs and M Shuttleworth 3-112 off 11.

Bardsey took all six points when they defeated New Rover by seven wickets. Four wickets apiece for Nick Ryder and Nick Ireland condemned New Rover.

Olicanians took five points from a drawn game with Botlon Villas after posting a score of 259-7.

There were excellent knocks from Giles Phillips (81no), Ed Brown (54), Will Pearson (29) and George Huntley (30no). Alan Hayes then took 3-43 as Villas replied with 192-8.

Carl Hutton top scored with 30 as Menston were restricted to a modest 114-8 as J Mukerjee bagged 5-38 and G Summersgill 3-14. Skipton then knocked off the runs for the loss of three wickets, Z Iqbal leading the way with an unbeaten 76.

Upper Wharfedale were another side to take all six points after dismissing Addingham for 115 in reply to their 151. A Merritt took 6-52 off 14 overs for Addingham but his batsmen failed to match his effort struggling against P Binner (4-26) and T Whittaker (3-38).

Woodhouse dismissed Thackley for 121 with T Hinchcliffe taking 3-46, L Dobson 4-29 and G Wells 3-5. They then rubbed off the total for the loss of six wickets with an unbeaten half-century from Dobson to complete a good all round performance from him.

Chappell Cup IN the third teams Chappell Cup on Sunday Guiseley progressed with an eight wickets win over Bilton in which young opener Charlie Best made 76 not out.

Rawdon set Adel a target of 180-9 with a half-century from opener S Butler. Adel however knocked off the runs with an unbeaten 74 from W Khan.
