Ilkley law firm to sponsor women's tennis tournament

THE Ilkley law firm, Last Cawthra Feather has announced that it will become the sponsor of the town's Women's British Tour Singles tennis event this year.

This high profile event forms part of the JM Glendinning Ilkley International Tennis Tournament and will attract top quality, including world-ranked, players.

The tournament, which is in its 112th year, will be held at the Ilkley Lawn Tennis and Squash Club from July 26 to August 2, and it is the North's premier grass court event with more than 600 competitors and 2,000 spectators expected to attend.

The tournament is one huge, week long, festival of tennis with international and national tennis events being run alongside junior and local adult and veteran events.

Tennis club general manager Caroline Buncall welcomed the sponsorship. She said: "Having Last Cawthra Feather as one of our main sponsors is great for the event.

"Entry is free and we hope that we will get a large number of spectators to watch top class players in action."

She added: "On the morning of finals' day we are also throwing our club open to young children to try the games of tennis and squash and we hope that the local community will come down and take part in this fantastic event. I'm sure the event will be a huge success and I am delighted that Last Cawthra Feather has decided to take part in the tournament."

Last Cawthra Feather's managing partner, Simon Stell, said: "The sponsorship is a great opportunity for us to put something back into the community which provides support to our firm's offices in The Wells Walk, Ilkley, Bradford and Shipley.

"Everyone at Last Cawthra Feather is looking forward to seeing so many talented sportswomen compete, and to also see players from the local members, right through to up and coming stars of the future."
