It was hard not to fall in love with the Chelsea Pensioners on Friday night’s Celebrity MasterChef as the competition was narrowed down to four for finals week.

The cooking was pretty impressive but there was no doubt who everyone was watching – the people eating the food – as the Chelsea Pensioners charmed the TV audience from the moment they delivered this toast before sitting down to a five-course feast.

MasterChef viewers might be used to more involved food critiques but the Chelsea Pensioners – one of whom admitted he had never eaten lobster before “in my 90 years” – proved must-watch stuff as they offered the type of reactions that most viewers could identify with.

The one-liners kept coming, with one of the Chelsea Pensioners suggesting he didn’t want to disturb the food because it was so well presented, while another revealed he might now start eating red meat after steering clear of it all his life.

That’s not to say they weren’t straight-shooting when they wanted to be… they definitely were.

In the end the two celebrities to get voted off were former boxer Audley Harrison – who left before cooking for the Chelsea Pensioners – and cleric Richard Coles.

Although people kind of expected Richard might not go through when he tweeted at the start of the show.

He clearly didn’t fancy watching back the episode of him getting knocked out.

His exit left the remaining four celebrities as American entertainer Jimmy Osmond, former EastEnders actor Sid Owen, BBC presenter Louise Minchin and actor Alexis Conran.

The winner will be decided next week, but there was no doubting who will be the most popular finalist.
