Julian Sands pays tribute to Harold Pinter in his new play
Ilkley Playhouse is pleased to announce adult acting classes will be offered on Saturday mornings from September in addition to the successful youth drama classes that have been running for more than 30 years.
Andrew Leggott, one of the junior class tutors, will be offering the same opportunity to adult actors from September 8 to December 22, with a one-week break for half-term. Classes will run from noon to 1pm, and cost £30 for 15 sessions.
The course is open to all, and content will include basic warm-up exercises, vocal skills, body language, the theory and practice of acting, theatrical genres and practitioners and the theory and practice of directing. There will be the opportunity for group members to direct their peers in small scenes, swapping roles as part of the learning process.
As the course progresses, other experts may be brought into sessions to advise on costume, stage fighting, choreography, lighting and sound. All levels of ability will be catered for, whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced actor. Everyone will be learning together, and the course will be tailored to fit all. You can register for the classes by contacting Andrew Leggott on (01943) 602014 or by e-mail a.leggott1@btinternet.com or go come along to the first class.
Tickets are selling well for Julian Sands’s much-acclaimed show celebrating the life and work of playwright Harold Pinter, which will take place in the Wharfeside Theatre at Ilkley Playhouse at 7.30pm on August 25 – so don’t delay, reserve your ticket today.
The show will be presented for one night only, and tickets are £12.50 and £10 for concessions. A Celebration of Harold Pinter, directed by John Malkovich, was first presented at the Edinburgh Festival last year, where it was a huge success, and Julian Sands has since performed the show all over the world. It takes the form of readings from Pinter’s poems, plays, essays, anecdotes and extracts from interviews. The result is a warm, moving and affectionate tribute to the man who has been described as the defining British playwright of the 20th century.
Tickets for A Celebration of Harold Pinter can be booked by calling the Playhouse box office on (01943) 609539 between 10am and noon or 3pm and 7pm, or online at the www.ilkleyplayhouse.co.uk website.
