A powerful production of the hit musical Jesus Christ Superstar has inspired school students and audience members in Menston.

Months of planning and rehearsal by pupils and staff at St Mary’s RC Comprehensive School paid off when they delivered performances that were acclaimed for their professionalism.

The show’s producer, Alacoque Marvin, said: “The success of the show was completely down to the team work and commitment of everyone involved.

“I’ve never worked with a more talented, supportive and dedicated company. We are all so proud of what we achieved; all the hard work was hugely rewarded by the thrill of performance week.”

Musical director Vicky Chapman was also full of praise for the show band which provided the music that held the whole production together.

Audience feedback included glowing reviews for everything from individual perfomances to the atmosphere of the ensemble scenes, quality of the sound and lighting, and the intricate choreography of Herod’s dancers.

A spokesman for St Mary’s said it was proud of everyone involved in the production, from the cast – including Tom McNulty as Judas; Sam McKay and Matthew Roberts as Jesus; and Cathy Stanford and Shelby North as Mary Magdelene – to the backstage and make-up teams.

“I will never forget this feeling,” said one elated cast member following the final, Friday night performance.

“It’s the best thing I’ve ever done. I want to do it all over again!”
