A YOUNG dancer from Addingham will live out her dreams as part of a professional stage production.

Daisy Gross, aged 11, of Addingham, is among six students of the Oxenhope-based Sara Packham Theatre Academy who will perform in Coppelia as members of the English Youth Ballet.

Daisy, will join Esmé Roche, William Campbell, Rebecca Costello, Leah Elphee and Maisie Loftus to take the stage at Darlington Hippodrome on April 13 and 14.

The youngsters are part of a 100-strong troupe currently taking part in a rehearsal programme with leading members of adult ballet companies.

William, 13, and Leah, nine, both live in Cullingworth, while Maisie, nine, lives in Thwaites Brow and attends St Joseph’s Primary School in Ingrow.

Esmé, 10, lives in Oakworth, and Daisy, 11, in Addingham, and they both attend their village primary schools.

Rebecca, 11, from Cottingley, attends Wilsden Primary School.

William said he wanted to become a professional ballet dancer when he was older, hopefully with Leeds-based Northern Ballet.

He said: “I started dancing two years ago. I was always jumping around in the house so my mum took me to ballet lessons.

“I am looking forward to dancing with English Youth Ballet because it’s my first proper ballet show so it will be a really good experience to try out. In the future I want to continue doing these types of shows and other types of dance.”

All the soloist and corps de ballet roles in the production will be performed by 100 of the finest dancers from the North East, aged from 8 to 18. The six local youngsters had to audition for English Youth Ballet at the Hippodrome last November, where the atmosphere in the theatre was electric.
