AN ADAPTATION of classic BBC comedy Steptoe and Son is coming to Otley.

Hambledon Productions have been granted exclusive access to the show's entire archive to adapt a range of original episodes for the stage.

The stage show, 56 years on from the television comedy's first broadcast, is being toured around the country and comes to Otley Courthouse on Friday, April 6.

The cast will be headed by Jeremy Smith and John Hewer as Albert Steptoe and son, Harold, respectively.

Jeremy trained at the National Youth Theatre and was also a member of The Young Vic Company and has toured in several productions ranging from farce to Shakespeare.

John Hewer works as a writer and director, but is best known for his iconic portrayal of Tommy Cooper in Just Like That! The Tommy Cooper Show, and for his performance as Tony Hancock in Hancock’s Half Hour – The Lost Episodes.

The Steptoe and Son show will feature the classic episodes Divided We Stand, Men of Letters and Come Dancing, along with excerpts from The Bath and Steptoe and Son – and Son!

The production, suitable for anyone aged 12 or over, has been fully endorsed and supported by the TV show's original writers, Ray Galton and Alan Simpson.

The Courthouse performance starts at 7.30pm and tickets, priced £12, are available by visiting www.otleycourthouse.org.uk, calling (01943) 467466 or popping into the Courthouse, on Courthouse Street.
