A PUBLICITY stunt for an upcoming Guiseley performance of The Full Monty has been turning heads.

Members of Guiseley Amateur Operatic Society (GAOS) staged pretend job protests in Guiseley, Yeadon and Ilkley recently to drum up interest.

The 'demos' succeeded in piquing people's curiosity - and securing bookings for the show which runs at Guiseley Theatre from Monday, February 26 to Saturday, March 3.

Cast member Darren Smith said: "The look on people’s faces was amazing.

"It turned from anger, empathy, or sympathy to amusement as they saw the connection between an out-of-work group of ex-steel workers and the advertisement for The Full Monty.

"We got talking to hundreds of people and, as a result, lots of people immediately booked tickets on line!"

The Guiseley production of The Full Money is based on the acclaimed musical adaptation of the award-winning, 1997 film of the same name.

The story follows a group of redundant steelworkers who fall upon the idea of forming their own strip tease outfit to make some desperately-needed money.

The six GAOS members taking the leading roles are: Lee Cannon, Joel George, Adam Gregory, Will Sadler, Darren Smith and Colin Waterman.

The men have also posed - nude - for the society's 2018 calendar, to help raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK.

Show director David Kirk has revealed that finding some vital equipment for the production - six pairs of men's thongs - proved more difficult than he had imagined.

In the end he used online specialists Deadgoodundies.com whose founder, Adam Davies, donated the clothing free of charge after hearing about the group's fundraising.

Mr Davies said: "We wish the guys all the best with the show and applaud them for posing nude in a racy calendar as part of their their fundraising for prostate cancer.

"Well done!"

Tickets for the show are available online at www.gaos.co.uk or from the box office on 07960 604082.

The GAOS calendars are on sale now, priced £10.
