OTLEY Courthouse will welcome back an award-winning comic next month.

Sony Gold award winning comedian Robin Ince will present another in his series of 'unhinged' stand-up lectures at the venue on Friday, February 23.

Back by popular demand and fresh from his live tour with Radio 4's Infinite Monkey Cage partner Professor Brian Cox, Ince intends to delve into his mind on the night - and possibly the audience's, too.

His first new stand-up show in three years is described as a clash of two cultures and 'a joyous romp through his favourite artists and strangest scientific ideas.'

Referencing everyone from Stanley Spencer to Niels Bohr, it is a 90 minute, energy-packed examination of ideas about creativity in science and art, and why we believe what we do.

Ince started his career as a comedy writer working on The 11 O'Clock Show, for which he also performed as an impressionist, impersonating legendary late DJ John Peel among others.

His television performances have included an appearance on the hit BBC sitcom The Office, when he played failed interviewee Stuart Foot.

In 2005 Ince began running the Book Club night at The Albany, London, where acts are encouraged to perform turns of new and experimental material.

The club actually got its name from Ince's attempts to read aloud from - and humorously criticise – various second-hand books which the audience and he had brought in for the occasion.

The Book Club proved to be so successful that the comic took it on a full UK tour in 2006, the same year he won the Time Out Award for Outstanding Achievement in Comedy.

He is best known for the regular BBC Radio 4 radio show he stars in with friend and celebrity physicist Brian Cox, The Infinite Monkey Cage, and also contributes each week to Steve Lamacq's BBC Radio 6 Music programme.

Appropriate for those aged 14 and over, Robin Ince: Pragmatic Insanity will start at the Courthouse at 8pm.

Tickets cost £14 and can be booked by visiging otleycourthouse.org.uk, calling (01943) 467466 or popping into the venue, on Courthouse Street, Otley.
