FILM fans can look forward to two very different screenings at Otley Courthouse next month.

On Thursday, February 1 Otley Film Society will present Elle - a psychological thriller about a businesswoman who, after being raped in her own home, tries to track down her assailant.

Directed by Paul Verhoeven and starring Isabelle Huppert, who was nominated for the best actress at last year's Oscars for her role as Michèle, the movie is rated 18 and starts at 7.45pm.

Tickets will be available on the door, priced £4.

Then on Saturday, February 3 John Godber's latest film, Last Laugh - starring Nick Figgis, Toyah Willcox, Jane Thornton, John Godber, Amy Thompson, Ann Micklethwaite and Paul Lavers - will be shown.

The comedy follows a college lecturer, Martin Dawson, and his hopes of escaping from obscurity by having a screenplay made into a film.

It examines his relationship with his ex-wife and children, his mistress, his film agent and his sometimes overbearing parents.

Dawson eventually suffers a breakdown during a cathartic rant on an open mic spot at a packed local comedy club - and during the performance experiences flashbacks to a memorable trip to Whitby.

Written by BAFTA winner Godber and directed by Daniel Coll, the movie starts at 7.45pm and for both films the bar will be open from 7pm.

Tickets cost £5 and can be booked by calling (01943) 467466 or visiting otleycourthouse.org.uk .
